The time is now, we have a critical need for registered nurses and, the Department of Texas VFW Auxiliary continues to sponsor a scholarship program to assist nursing students to achieve their career goals. Our Veterans and their families will always need nurses. You will need to contact the Directors of all accredited colleges with Nursing Programs in Texas and share with all your Auxiliary Presidents and chairmen. We need to make the information available to all junior nursing students. Applications should be sent to all colleges in your area. All completed applications should be in my hands by May 1, 2021. (No Exceptions). Not postmarked on May 1, 2021.

Requirements:
- Nursing Student who will graduate in 2022.
- Must be attending a Texas College or University.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Double-Spaced Typewritten Essay of 300 words or less on: “Why I Chose a Nursing Career and What Impact Will It HAVE On Veterans and Their Families”
- Completed Application.
- Current Transcript w/GPA included.
- Completed Application with required documents and essay, postmarked and mailed to me to be in my hands no later than May 1, 2021.
Statewide Project
- Our Statewide Project is to “Honor Our Nurses”. Each Auxiliary should honor the nurses in your area. There are nurses in hospitals, doctors’ offices, urgent care clinics, private nurses, cancer centers, etc. Please do not forget the night shift nurses! Show them you care, give a card, cookies, flowers, fruit plates, veggie plates, and other forms of appreciation.
- Publicize your event. If you have a local newspaper, advertise it. Be proud of what you do!
- The State Nursing Scholarship is no longer a self-sustaining program. Donate a minimum of $15.00 to the Nurses program. Mail checks to the Department of Texas and earmark them for the State Nursing Scholarship Program.
Awards
- Plaque to the Auxiliary in each Membership Division with the best “Honor Our Nurses” Program. Citations for 2nd and 3rd place winners.
- Award to the Auxiliary donating the most monies to the State Nursing Scholarship Program. Citations for 2nd and 3rd place winners.
