Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest

2020-2021 Theme: What is Patriotism To Me

This contest is open to all students, including home-schooled students, in grades 6-8. The student must be a resident of the state where the contest is entered. One Department winner will be forwarded to VFW National Headquarters. You can find the student brochure with all the rules and requirements below. Again, please pay close attention to the details and rules to avoid disqualifications. Please do get your information packets to schools in August so teachers can include the contest in their lesson plans.

DEADLINES:

• VFW/Auxiliary-No later than November 1st
• District Chairman- No later than November 15th
• Department- No later than December 1st

REMINDERS:

1. One (1) winner may be submitted for every 15 entries received
2. All entries submitted to District for judging must include:
   1. Students COMPLETED entry form with ALL required signatures
   2. Essay between 300-400 words in length
   3. Post Patriot’s Pen Participation Summary Report form
   4. One head & shoulder photograph
