“Americanism is an unfailing love of country, loyalty to its institutions and ideals; eagerness to defend it against all enemies; undivided allegiance to the flag; and a desire to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and posterity.” Americanism is a mixture that entails pride, ideals, devotion, interests, and traditions.
As we can very clearly see, LOVE of country, eagerness to DEFEND, undivided ALLEGIANCE to our Flag, desire to secure the BLESSINGS of liberty for ourselves and our posterity is the definition of an American. Therefore, as members of the VFW Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, we have a responsibility to educate, promote, participate in our community, and most especially on those days that are designated to remember and honor all Veterans of this great country.
We can EDUCATE, PROMOTE, PARTICIPATE, and HONOR our VETERANS by:
- Visiting classrooms and teaching children the Pledge of Allegiance
- Teaching adults the proper way to salute the Flag
- Teaching the community what Gold Star and Blue Star Families are
- Recognizing teachers who demonstrate Americanism in classrooms
- Inviting Veterans to speak in school classrooms or assemblies
- Giving out flags at local gatherings
- Participating in Flag Retirement Ceremonies
STATEWIDE PROJECT
Visit elementary classrooms and teach them the Pledge of Allegiance and present information on patriotic holidays.
